Why rainbows make us happy

Yesterday I saw another one. It was a whole rainbow, and if you looked closely it was also double. He was truly beautiful! Even our game of tennis was stopped for a while. It is a magical appearance, a gift from nature. It is unpredictable and always takes a while. It doesn't matter how young or old you are, everyone always turns their heads for this. People just get happy when they see a rainbow, but why is that? Below the different meanings of the rainbow.

How does a rainbow form

When water drops are illuminated by the sun, a rainbow is created. The white sunlight is made up of the colors red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. Each color has a different wavelength, so they deflect in a slightly different way. Red deflects the least, and violet the most. This creates a range of colors at an angle of 40 to 42 degrees.

Colorful

People like color. The saying is not for nothing: 'Give color to your life.' The rainbow is an explosion of color, but neatly ordered. In its simplicity it is a delight to the eye.

Celebration of diversity

Everyone is different, and yet together we form 1 beautiful whole. Since the 1970s, the rainbow has been the symbol of lesbian and gay pride and at the same time for the diversity of this way of life. Be proud of who you are, what you are and how you are. Your diversity is our wealth

Connection to the afterlife

A rainbow symbolizes the bridge between heaven and earth. It connects the earthly with the divine. The visible world coincides equally with the invisible, magical and supernatural. A rainbow is also extremely fleeting, so it also immediately trains us to let go.

Consolation

No rainbow without rain. But not without sun either. You usually associate a rain shower with sadness and setbacks. And a radiant sun with joy and prosperity. This is evident from the proverb 'after rain comes sunshine'. When these opposites meet, a phenomenon arises that transcends both, the magical appearance of the rainbow. When people see a rainbow in intense grief, they draw comfort from it. It then seems as if something wants to tell them that it is good as it is. The sadness may be there. There is a feeling of acceptance and resignation.

Sign of angels

Some people believe that angels have recognizable signs or symbols to let them know they are there. Similarly, seeing a rainbow is said to be a sign from angels to remind you that you are not alone. No matter how dark it seems around you, one day the sun will shine again for you. It could also mean that your wish will come true, or that you are on the right path and that the angels are encouraging you to continue. Whether you believe in angels or not, it's a nice thought that you're not alone and that you're being taken care of.

Rainbows and children

Kids love rainbows. The cheerful colors alone are so cheerful and optimistic. A colourful, hopeful dream world with clouds, rainbows and unicorns is something you wish everyone had!

Pot of gold

The rainbow is also the symbol of prosperity and wealth, symbolized by the pot of gold at the bottom of the rainbow. It gives hope.

Transition period and change

The rainbow also symbolizes a period of transition and change. Children often draw him in periods when a lot is happening or changing. Like the transition from home to school. Or from group 2 to group 3 (an intensive transition for many children!). But changes such as a move or divorce also cause children to draw more rainbows. And finally; rainbows are about hope. Hope for change and other, perhaps better, times.

Gratitude

Beholding a rainbow is a gift, and encountering their beauty is the perfect time to be thankful for all the gifts in our lives, according to most cultures.

Give a rainbow

The rainbow makes us happy and therefore gives hope and comfort. A symbol for a bright spot in difficult times, 'behind the clouds the sun shines' and the promise of a new beginning. It only takes 1 small ray of sunshine to transform a dark rain shower into a beautiful rainbow! So the rainbow would be wonderful present are for someone you want to encourage or let them know that you are there for them.
